Data Driven Innovation For Sustainable Creative Practice

// Overview

The Brief

Creative Informatics and Video Production Edinburgh collaborated on the creation of four case studies of projects dealing with the intersections of environmental sustainability, data and technology, which have all been led by and rooted in the creative industries in Scotland. The films highlight how the creative sector has been utilising data and technology to address the climate crisis, by responding artistically to environmental data, as well as developing tools and technologies to empower individual and systemic change.

  • Objectives: Produce four videos that deliver the key messages and showcase each practice in its unique characteristics
  • Audience: Academics, sponsors, contributors
  • Challenge: Short turn-around and high-quality visuals required. Academic standards compliance

The Approach

The team at Video Production Edinburgh worked tightly with Creative Informatics to acquire as much information as possible on each project to make sure we covered and showed each project’s specificities.

The production included:

  • Creative Strategy and Pre-production: Planning and scheduling around a tight producing schedule optimising the time we spent on the road to film between several locations across the country
  • Filming: Filming in multiple locations in a non-sequential way required organisation and method
  • Post-Production: We delivered four videos between 12 and 35 minutes-long with English subtitles

The Outcome

The videos have been showcased at multiple events, conferences and published on academic papers
